The files

First, get the following files and download them:
  • Activesync 3.7 installer -- RIGHT CLICK and SAVE
  • Phone drivers -- RIGHT CLICK and SAVE
  • Upgrade tool -- RIGHT CLICK and SAVE
  • The new phone image -- RIGHT CLICK and SAVE

    Extract phone image ZIP

  • Extract the phone image

    • The backup

  • First, do a full backup of your phone as you normally do. THIS UPGRADE ERASES EVERYTHING!!!
  • Second, do a synch of all your contact and stuff.

    PC Prep

    Activesync

    Your activesync MUST BE version 3.7. (Not 3.7.1). Check your version. If it is 3.7, this is fine. If it is NOT 3.7, go to start_menu --> settings --> control_panel -->add/remove programs.
    -- Remove "Microsoft Activesync"
    -- Reboot
    -- Install Activesync 3.7 from the MSASYNC.EXE file you downloaded
    -- Reboot (yes, really)
    -- Sync with phone.

    Phone drivers

    Undock phone.

    Extract the files from Samsung_MCCI_Driver.zip into a directory. Run SETUP.

    When done, on the PDA do start->settings->system->USB->external data call.

    dock the phone.

    Wait for drivers to be installed.

    Undock the phone.

    pda start->settings->system->usb->Select Active Sync

    Run the ugprade tool

    Remember to dock and undock when it tells you -- it actually checks for it.

    First phase: Downloading image. YOU ALREADY HAVE THE IMAGE. Just check it. Otherwise you're just downloading what you already have... and this one takes a bit.

    Second phase: Writing image: This one takes about 80% of the first one.

    Third phase: IF IT FINDS THE PHONE drivers, it will go to phase 4. OTherwise, the "Found new hardware" thing will pop up. Let it do its thing. If you didn't do the USB->stuff above, the upgrade will say it failed. That's ok, reset your phone and redo it. You will need to re-align your screen / enter in time zone.

    Fourth phase: (Only if failed above) Repeat upgrade tool, repeat phase 1, phase 2, And now it will download the Phone software and install it.

    Fifth phase: reset. Realign . Enter in time zone. That's it.

    . The installation HANGS. At that point you need to remove from cradle. Turn off. Turn on. Put in cradle. Resynch. Voila the installation starts.
